If you want to support your local animal shelter, donations are a great way to do so. The unique thing about these organizations is that they are often happy to receive non-monetary donations. While they are all happy to receive money from their donors, they can often use extra supplies to run their organization. Some supplies you can donate typically are cat and dog supplies, office supplies, and other pet supplies.
Cat Supplies
You have a number of options when it comes to cat supplies. For example, you can donate cat or kitten food, and you can donate hard or soft food. In some cases, you can even donate cat litter, but check with the shelter first. Some of them will not use cat litter. You can usually donate small cat toys and catnip as well. Some places may need cat carriers to transport the cats around the facility and to other rescue organizations.
Dog Supplies
You also have a variety of options when it comes to dog supplies. Just like with cat food, you can donate dog or puppy food and soft or hard food. Dog carriers and dog toys, especially durable dog toys, are often in demand as well.
Office Supplies
Many of these groups are happy to receive donations of office supplies too. They might need paper, printer ink, pens, folders, and more. If you have an older piece of technology, such as old computers, cameras, and cell phones, you might be able to donate that as well.
Other Pet Supplies
Other pet supplies include things like halters and lead ropes if the organization houses horses. It can also include items for rodents and rabbits. These organizations will sometimes have to house these smaller animals, and you can donate cages, bedding, food, and toys.
Besides donating, a fun way to help out is to organize a supply drive at your local pet supply store. This is a great activity for a Boy or Girl Scouts troop, a church group, a team, or a class. It promotes community service and helps your local animal shelter to continue its work.
